J-D High School Student Receives Scholarship at PRHYLI

Student Delegates representing the Syracuse Region recently took part in the 34th annual Puerto Rican Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PRHYLI). J-D Senior Daniel Skewes was one of 27 students from nine districts and ten high schools to make up the Syracuse Region. 

Students networked, practiced leadership skills, and participated in a Mock Assembly in the State Assembly Chambers. Students also had the opportunity to hear from NYS Commissioner of Education Dr. Betty Rosa, SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr., and Assemblyman Phil Ramos.

The Institute culminated with a gala celebration including dinner, music, and dancing. Somos Organization awarded $50,000 in scholarships. Skewes was among three Syracuse Delegation members to receive one. He was awarded $1,500. Outstanding Delegates were also recognized.
