Dec. 18 public hearing on proposed changes to the 2023-24 District Safety Plan

This is a reminder that the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District is currently receiving public comments on proposed changes to the 2023-24 District Safety Plan, which includes the addition of an SRO at each school building.

The board of education will hold a public hearing and present the proposed changes on Monday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. at Tecumseh Elementary School. The hearing is also available via Zoom. The link and community comment information can be found on the board of education page of the district website.

We’re dedicated to keeping students and staff safe at all school buildings. That’s why the district hired Armoured One LLC to conduct an in depth security audit earlier this year.

Proposed 2023-24 District Safety Plan changes include four recommended focus areas: access to facilities, surveillance, communication equipment, and emergency protocols and procedures.

The district will accept feedback on the plan through January 6. You can send comments to Superintendent Peter Smith at psmith@jd.cnyric.org. They will be shared with the board of education.

The board anticipates voting on whether to adopt the plan on January 8.
