Meet the 2023-24 student board of education member

Image of Rami Al-MudamghaJamesville-DeWitt High School senior Rami Al-Mudamgha is serving as the 2023-24 Ex-Officio Student Board Member on the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education.

This voter approved, non-voting position is annually filled by a high school senior for a one-year term. The student member, who is elected by their high school peers, may sit with the board at all public board meetings and public hearings but may not attend executive sessions.

To get to know Rami a bit, we asked him the following questions:

Why did you want to serve on the board of education?

I had a hand in writing the new JDHS constitution, so I figured that it was only right that I ran for the government I had a hand in making as a show of confidence. As well, many of my friends have told me that if I were to run for President they would vote for me. While I have no interest in running for president, minus of course the fact that I’m too young, I thought that running for Student Board Representative would be a good way to repay all the support they gave me.

What issues do you think are important to J-D students?

Having a safe school environment, fair treatment from administration, and a feeling that their voices are being heard by the district.

How do you plan to stay in tune with the student body so you are sharing their views with the board of education?

I plan to send out emails on hot button issues to gauge student response, as well as holding office hours, where students can come to me directly with their concerns and questions.
