About Jamesville Elementary

Jamesville Elementary School is one of three elementary schools in the Jamesville-Dewitt Central School District. We are a PreK through Grade 4 community of learners. Our dedicated teaching staff and support personnel strive to provide for each student’s individual needs. We support our district mission of an uncompromising commitment to excellence in preparing students to achieve and succeed, to respect themselves and others and to practice life-long learning in an ever-changing, richly diverse global society. We take responsibility for providing a challenging educational experience in a safe and nurturing environment. We dedicate ourselves to the academic, artistic, social, emotional and physical development of each student.

Arrival/Dismissal

All students transported to and from Jamesville Elementary School by vehicle will need to use the door at the end of the gymnasium hallway. Signage will be used to designate the flow of traffic, as well as the marked locations where students may exit or enter their vehicles.

Morning Drop Off Information

All students brought to school by vehicle will be dropped off in the designated drop off areas. As you pull up, please pull up to the first open spot. We ask that parents remain in their cars and students exit onto the sidewalk (students should unload on the right of the vehicle). For safety purposes, we will only allow students who ride on buses to enter through the main doors.

Please note, due to the increased volume of students, we ask that parents do not get to the school parking lot before 8:35 a.m. This will prevent a large backup on Rt. 173.

Afternoon Pickup Information

Similar to drop off, all students being picked up at dismissal time (3:20 p.m.) will be dismissed out the gymnasium side door. Parents are asked to remain in their car. We will make sure your student gets to your car safely. All students who will be regularly picked up will receive a placard to hang on their rearview mirror for pickup time.

Other Notes

If you are dropping off or picking up your child between 8:50 a.m. and 3:10 p.m., we ask that you use the main entrance.

Attendance

Absence or late arrival

If your student is going to be absent or late, please call the school’s main office or nurse. A written excuse is required from caregivers for any student absence or tardiness.

The written note should be sent to school with the student on the day they come back to school and must have the following information:

  1. Student’s full name
  2. Date or dates of the absence or tardiness
  3. Reason(s) for the absence or tardiness
  4. Caregiver’s signature

Early dismissal

If a student needs to leave school early, a note from a caregiver with the reason for leaving must be sent to school the day the student needs to be dismissed early. Please ring the door buzzer when you arrive, and your student will be escorted to the door while you wait outside.

If a note was not sent in for an early pick up, the student’s caregiver will be let into the vestibule to sign out their student. The student will then be escorted to the door.

Attendance expectations

Every student is expected to attend class daily as required by New York state law. Daily attendance fosters both a continuity of learning and personal responsibility, which are both integral to the educational process. Active student participation is an essential part of the school curriculum. Students are required to attend classes every school day unless excused for a valid reason.

Acceptable reasons for absences and/or tardiness are (per district attendance policy):

  1. Personal illness or injury
  2. Death or emergency illness in the immediate family
  3. Religious observance
  4. Required court appearance
  5. Medical and dental appointments
  6. School-sponsored events
  7. College interviews and approved career development and academic counseling
  8. Late arriving bus
  9. Impassable roads or weather making travel unsafe
  10. School-based music lessons
  11. Any other reason as authorized at the discretion of the building principal

Please note that a family vacation is not a legal reason for an absence.
