Food Bank helps families cut grocery costs

Students need fuel for their brain to learn, and the Food Bank of Central New York offers a program to help families stretch their grocery budget and purchase healthy foods.

Food $en$e is a monthly food buying co-op open to anyone. There are no qualifications, no subscriptions and no requirements to participate.

Participants receive a monthly box of 12-15 staple grocery items costing $20.50 without limitation to the number of packages that may be purchased. Items vary monthly, but the package always includes:

  • 4-5 meat items, such as chicken, ground beef or fish;
  • 4-5 staple pantry items, such as pasta, soup and rice; and
  • 2 fresh produce items, such as apples, carrots or oranges.

Rotating monthly specials, including stuffed pork chops, American cheese, meatballs, lasagna and chicken tenders, can be purchased in addition to the basic unit.

Check out the Food $en$e website or call 315-437-1899 to find out more about the program and how to participate.
