Board approves district calendar change due to upcoming solar eclipse

The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education has approved a district calendar change due to the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, April 8.

The Central New York region is expected to be a prime viewing area for the eclipse and we’re anticipating more visitors and traffic in our community. The estimated time of the eclipse falls within our regular school dismissal window. The safety of our students is our top priority and we feel it would be best to keep J-D buses off of roads that day.

The Superintendent Conference Day previously scheduled for Friday, March 15 will now be held on Monday, April 8. That means there will be no school for students on April 8 and March 15 will be a regular school day. We hope this decision gives parents/guardians plenty of time to make arrangements for the schedule change.

All of our schools are involved in educating students about the solar eclipse so they have a deeper understanding of what is happening and how to observe the event safely.
