Absentee ballots are available for upcoming school budget vote

On May 16, the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District will be asking residents to vote on the 2023-2024 school budget proposal as well as elect three district residents to the J-D Board of Education.

Qualified voters can file an absentee ballot application if they will not be able to vote in person due to illness or physical disability, hospitalization, incarceration (unless incarcerated for a felony), travel outside the voter’s county or city of residence for employment or business reasons, studies or vacation on the day of the election.

Absentee ballots are not automatically mailed to all registered voters. Individuals are eligible to vote if they are a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days prior to the vote.

Absentee ballot applications may be requested by contacting Tish Hauser at the J-D District Office, 315-445-8304 or thauser@jd.cnyric.org. Applications must be received at the J-D District Office by 4 p.m. May 9 – if the ballot is to be mailed or 4 p.m. May 15 – if the ballot is to be picked up.

For your ballot to be canvassed, it must be received by the school district clerk by 5 p.m. on the day of the election. For those dropping off their ballots, the district will have a secured ballot drop-off box outside the district office entrance at J-D High School.

The absentee ballot application is good only for the vote to which it specifically pertains.

Information about the proposed budget is available on the district website in the budget section.
