SAT & ACT/College Planning Information
There are a number of websites that can help students and their families plan for college. Several are listed below along with descriptions of what you will find at each.
ACT
Includes information about the ACT test and the online registration site for the ACT.
Jamesville-DeWitt High School does not currently offer the ACT at the school. Students can choose to take the ACT on paper or online at select locations nationwide. The online ACT cannot be taken remotely. The exam must be taken at an ACT Testing Center.
During registration, students will be able to find test centers that are offering the online ACT test. Students will then choose between bringing their own device (BYOD) or using a test center provided device. Please note, the district will not provide a device for off-site testing. Further, the district recommends that students use a test center provided device for online testing. Using a test center provided device guarantees the required software (ACT Gateway) and
hardware are ready for testing.
Fair Test
Lists colleges that are test-optional. Updated regularly.
SAT/College Board
Includes information about College Board tests, programs, and online registration for the SAT, a Test Question of the Day, sample test questions and a searchable database of colleges and financial aid info. Additionally, Advanced Placement (AP) exam information is available.
Jamesville-DeWitt High School hosts the SAT four times each school year, twice in both the fall and spring. Please refer to the district calendar for specific test dates.
You can view the district’s SAT exam device lending policy here.

Fastweb
Provides a free scholarship search.
NCAA Eligibility Center

SCOIR
This site provides career and college planning inventories and search engines and is used to request Jamesville-DeWitt teacher recommendation letters to be sent to colleges in your senior year.
U.S News & World Report
If you go to the Education page on this site, you can retrieve the U.S. News & World Report’s free basic college information. For $40/year, you can access very detailed college admissions data.

Scholarship for Academic Excellence
Jamesville-DeWitt High School students who plan to attend college or university in New York State can be nominated for a NYS Scholarship for Academic Excellence.
NYS Scholarships for Academic Excellence provide up to $1,500 per year for up to five years of undergraduate study in New York State.
J-D students will nominated based on the following criteria:
Regents Test Scores
A high school which, prior to its students’ senior year, has offered students seeking Regents credit either a Regents examination or an approved alternative assessment, but not both, in each of the following subjects:
-
- Comprehensive English
- Global Studies
- United States History/Government
- Mathematics B
- Two or more of the following four sciences: Earth Science, Living Environment/Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
The high school shall select their winner(s) by computing a weighted average of the scores on the Regents examinations and/or approved alternative assessments taken by students prior to their senior year, in all of the following subjects:
-
- English Language Arts (weight of three)
- Algebra II (weight of three)
- Global studies and Geography (weight of one)
- United States History & Government (weight of one)
- Science: at least two, but up to four courses may be included. (weight of one for each course)
- Individual schools must decide, in the science area, how many sciences to use in the calculation. They must use the same number of science courses for all students in the competition. They do not need to use the same courses.
If the approved alternative assessment is not scored on a one hundred-point scale, the high school must convert the scores on the approved alternative assessment to a one hundred-point scale. If a student elected not to take the Regents examinations listed, or an approved alternative assessment, then that student cannot compete or be selected as a scholarship winner.
