The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District continues to make progress with its capital project which was approved by voters in December 2024. The project work has been separated into two phases, and construction for phase one will be ramping up this spring and summer.
The biggest undertaking will be at Tecumseh Elementary School, where safety improvements are being made to support the district’s strategic plan priority area of Safe and Efficient Operations by developing and maintaining district facilities and infrastructure.
Tecumseh’s current parking lot has led to congestion during arrival and dismissal times. The new design should make student transportation more efficient, alleviating congestion by creating separate areas for bus parking and a parent drop loop.
Accessibility was also a key focus of the redesign. Tecumseh is home to the district’s 12:1+(3:1) special education classroom, The Learning Pad. The updated layout will better serve students, staff, and visitors with disabilities.
Additional parking lot improvements include upgraded lighting, a new pedestrian sidewalk, and an updated school sign. Beyond the parking lot, Tecumseh will also get Universal Pre-Kindergarten playground equipment installed.
Inside the building, aging HVAC equipment will be replaced to improve air quality, comfort, and overall system efficiency—an ongoing focus of the district’s strategic plan priority area. The district’s long-term goal is to complete HVAC upgrades in all school buildings.
Weather permitting, the majority of the work is expected to be completed prior to the start of the 2026-27 school year. You can learn about work taking place in all of the buildings and on school grounds by visiting the capital project page here.
