At Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School, cultivating leadership skills, collaboration, and student voice is an essential component of our community. Students have multiple avenues to champion peer initiatives, drive environmental sustainability, and positively shape their school culture.
Athletics (grades 7 and 8)
Students can participate and represent Jamesville-DeWitt in interscholastic athletics. Please visit the district’s Athletics webpage for information about teams and schedules.
Schedule: daily, practice and game schedules typically occur in the afternoon.
Intramurals (grades 5-8)
Variety of team activities offered in the main gym. The intramural program spans the majority of the academic year, allowing students to drop in and participate across multiple seasons.
- Program Term: Mid-September through early June.
- Weekly Schedule: Activities are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
- Time: Sessions begin immediately after the academic day at 2:50 p.m.
- Location: Main Gymnasium at Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School.

GSA Jr. / Gender & Sexuality Alliance (grades 6-8)
Formerly known as YANA, this group offers leadership opportunities centered around peer support, conversation, and localized community activism. Its goal is to build a safe, respectful environment where all LGBTQ+ students and allies are treated with dignity.
Schedule: weekly on Thursdays, 3:05 – 3:40 p.m.

J-D Middle School Times Newspaper (grades 5-8)
This student-run publication provides a tangible voice for the J-DMS community. Budding journalists, writers, and editors meet weekly.
Schedule: weekly on Wednesdays, 3:05 – 3:40 p.m.

PTG Activities (grades 5-8)
The PTG sponsors unique, small-group extracurricular clubs designed to let students explore specialized interests. These offerings rotate and have historically spanned activities ranging from theater writing workshops to high-intensity interval training. There is a $30 participation fee.
Schedule: weekly, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 2:50 – 3:40 p.m.

Student Council (grades 5-8)
This organization serves as the core student government body at J-DMS. Under the guidance of the J-D MS Faculty, the Student Council gives students an active platform to coordinate school-wide events, promote community spirit, and advocate for peer needs.
A select number of students from each grade forms the Student/Principal Alliance Team that meets after school once a month to discuss school improvement.

Sustainability Club (grades 6-8)
Students looking to practice environmental stewardship take charge of building-wide recycling programs, organize school yard clean-ups, and enjoy field trips to local natural sites like Butternut Creek and SUNY-ESF.

Yearbook (grade 8)
Eighth graders can step into project leadership roles by managing photography, layout design, and marketing for the school keepsake.
Schedule: every other day during the school day. Multiple and varied
after school times for photography, organization and marketing meetings.
