April 29, 2021: Schools not in session on Friday, May 28
On April 29, Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Superintendent Peter Smith sent the following letter via SchoolMessenger to J-D families and staff.
Dear J-D families and staff,
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, all Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District in-person and remote classes will not be in session on Friday, May 28, because the district has not used all of its allotted emergency closure days for the 2020-21 school year.
Each year, as school districts build their school calendars, they account for a certain number of emergency closure days. These days are used for such events as hazardous weather (snow, ice, extreme cold), or plumbing or heating issues that would affect the health or safety of students and staff.
If the district needs to use an emergency school closure day between the date of this notice and May 27, classes will be in session on May 28, and we will notify you directly as well as post information on the district website.
Aside from the May 28 revision, no additional changes have been made to the 2020-21 district calendar. As a reminder, there will be no classes for all students on May 13 in recognition of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, and the last day of classes for students in grades K-8 remains June 25.
The last day of regular classes for Jamesville-DeWitt High School students will be June 16. Following this date, students in grades 9-12 attend based on the Regents exam schedule.
If you have any questions about the May 28 calendar change, please contact your student’s building principal or me.
