March 18, 2021: Board approves 2021-22 school-year calendar

Get ready to mark your calendars: The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District 2021-22 school-year calendar is now available.

At its March 15 meeting, the J-D Board of Education approved the calendar, which sets school holidays, vacation weeks and days off for students due to staff development days. Once school and district events and activities are scheduled for the new school year, that information will be added to the district’s website calendar, which is the most up-to-date resource for families and community members.

No school on Election Day

A staff development day is scheduled for Nov. 2, when J-D High School and Tecumseh Elementary School will serve as polling places for the General Election. Because there will be no classes, students will not be in the buildings while community members cast their ballots.

Juneteenth recognized

New for 2021-22, schools will not be in session June 20 to mark the Juneteenth holiday, which is June 19. Juneteenth commemorates the end to slavery and celebrates Black and African American freedom and achievements while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures. Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation in October 2020 designating Juneteenth as an official public holiday.

Religious observances

The board and administration recognize that the district is a culturally diverse community and that some students and their families may be celebrating or observing a variety of religious holidays not noted on the school-year calendar. Parents and guardians may request that their child is excused from classes to observe a religious holiday.
