Jan. 11, 2021: Asymptomatic COVID-19 testing to be held Jan. 15 at Jamesville and Tecumseh
On Jan. 11, Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District sent the following letter via SchoolMessenger to J-D families and staff.
Dear J-D families and staff,
Onondaga County will be conducting asymptomatic COVID-19 testing on Friday, Jan. 15, at two Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District schools: Jamesville Elementary and Tecumseh Elementary.
Jamesville Elementary and Tecumseh Elementary students in groups A, B, C, and D, and J-D staff members are eligible to be tested. Testing is voluntary, and registration is required by using this COVID-19 test registration link. No walk up registration is permitted. Parents and guardians must identify the testing site as the school their child attends, and staff should choose the school where they are primarily based.
There will be 60 tests available at each school, and registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis until all tests have been spoken for in each school building.
Remote students and symptomatic individuals will not be tested as the county is looking to identify individuals in school settings who may not be aware that they have the virus. Remote students and symptomatic individuals interested in being tested may contact their health care provider or visit this website to find a testing location.
While the Jan. 15 testing will take place on an in-person instruction day for students in groups B, C and D, families may register group A students for a test. Anyone not in school on that day will need to provide their own transportation to and from school for the test.
The tests will be shallow nasal swabs and administered at no cost as the county has supplied them to each school. Results are typically known within 15-20 minutes. Anyone with a positive result will be sent home.
This testing is an important part of the county’s strategy to limit the spread of COVID-19 within our schools and the community-at-large so I thank you in advance for participating and helping to keep our schools safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me or your child’s principal.
