Dec. 3, 2020: Yellow zone testing complete; schools remain open for in-person instruction

On Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Superintendent Peter Smith sent the following letter via SchoolMessenger to J-D families and staff.

Dear J-D families and staff,

I want to thank everyone who participated in our state-required yellow zone COVID-19 school-based testing events this week.

Because each school reached the 20 percent threshold for testing staff and students participating in hybrid instruction, our schools can remain open for in-person instruction. At this time, we will not need to do any further COVID-19 school-based testing as part of the state’s yellow zone designations in Onondaga County.

As a result of the testing, one student at Tecumseh Elementary School received a positive COVID-19 test result on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and was immediately sent home. There were no positive results from testing today, Thursday, Dec. 3, at J-D High School, J-D Middle School and Jamesville Elementary School.

There were also no positive results at Moses DeWitt Elementary School when the county conducted testing there on Tuesday, Dec. 1, as part of that school’s orange zone testing requirement. At this time, all of our schools are continuing to offer in-person instruction following their regular hybrid instructional schedules.

If the state requires us to conduct school-based testing again in the future, we will work with the county to do so and notify you as soon as possible.

If you or your child did not receive a test during one of the county’s COVID-19 testing events at our schools this week and you would like a test for your child or yourself, please visit this website to find a testing location near you.

I am thankful to those who signed up their children or themselves for testing so our schools can remain open for in-person instruction. It is wonderful to see our school community continue to support and care for one another despite the challenges we may be facing individually. It is true that we are stronger when we work together, and together, we are J-D.
