Nov. 29, 2020: Jamesville, middle school and high school COVID-19 cases reported
On Sunday, Nov. 29, Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Superintendent Peter Smith sent the following letter via SchoolMessenger to J-D families and staff.
Dear Jamesville-DeWitt families and staff,
Since Thursday, Nov. 26, we were notified of the following positive cases at Jamesville-DeWitt:
- 1 member of the Jamesville Elementary School staff
- 1 member of the J-D Middle School staff
- 3 J-D High School students
The health department is in the process of identifying and notifying individuals who were in close contact with these people. We will continue with in-person instruction in all buildings with the exception of Moses DeWitt and one classroom at Jamesville Elementary. Moses DeWitt is fully remote on Monday, Nov. 30.
The students and staff members who tested positive, and any other students and staff members that the county determines were exposed, will not return to school until the county provides clearance for them to do so. We hope you understand that due to privacy laws, we cannot provide any additional information about the students and staff who tested positive or about those who may have been exposed.
If you are not contacted by the health department but would still like to schedule a COVID-19 test, please visit this website to find a testing location near you. If your child is exhibiting symptoms or has been out of school due to illness, please refer to the guidance in the New York State Department of Health Pre-K to Grade 12 COVID-19 Toolkit to determine if they can attend school or return to school.
We continue to thoroughly clean and disinfect all our buildings, as well as our buses, in accordance with guidance from the state Department of Health and the CDC. Information on our cleaning and health and safety protocols can be found in the district’s reopening plan.
Please continue to practice and encourage good hand-washing hygiene, wear face masks and practice social distancing.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me or Jamesville Elementary School Principal Marcy Baker, Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School Principal Andy Eldridge, or Jamesville-DeWitt High School Principal Paul Gasparini
