Proposed district safety plan changes available for public review; Dec. 18 public hearing planned

The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District will be opening a public comment period for proposed changes to the district safety plan, which includes the addition of an SRO at each school building. Superintendent Peter Smith presented security audit recommendations during the board of education’s regular meeting on Monday, December 4.

We’re dedicated to keeping students and staff safe at all school buildings. That’s why the district hired Armoured One LLC to conduct the in depth security audit earlier this year.

Proposed changes include four focus areas: access to facilities, surveillance, communication equipment, and emergency protocols and procedures.

The board of education will present the proposed 2023-24 District Safety Plan and hold a public hearing at its December 18 board meeting.

The district will be accepting feedback on the proposed plan from December 8 through January 6. You can send comments to Superintendent Peter Smith at psmith@jd.cnyric.org. They will be shared with the board of education.

The board anticipates voting on whether to adopt the plan on January 8.
