Multiple J-DHS students earn New York state Seal of Biliteracy

We’re proud to share that multiple Jamesville-DeWitt High School students have earned the New York state Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB)!

The NYSSB recognizes high school students who have attained a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in one or more languages in addition to English. Students must demonstrate the required level of proficiency for the seal by completing and presenting a culminating project, scholarly essay or portfolio. This is also a self driven project; teaching students time management among many other professional skills.

This year’s group of candidates each individually pursued unique topics and persevered to prepare their presentation from October until April. These students have demonstrated an appreciation for learning, dedication toward completing a goal, growth in their respective languages, and a deepened cultural awareness. They also supported each other with feedback and shared both information and presentation skills with their peers.

Many of our senior candidates presented to an evaluator panel at the high school and four students presented at the local RBERN chapter to evaluators from districts across Onondaga County. Our junior candidates will be eligible to earn their seal at the end of next academic year.

Please congratulate the following students:
