It was another record-breaking year for the Tecumseh Learning Pad’s annual Lemonade Stand. The district’s special education classroom raised $13,347 this year! The funds will be split between Central New York Autism Society of America and ARISE Adaptive Design.
“J-D is truly one of a kind,” shared special education teacher Megan Ames. “The love, kindness, and support from this incredible community has been shining so bright all week. As we celebrate our 13th year, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride for what we have collectively accomplished across this entire district. I have so much gratitude and love for everyone who makes this so special.”

The lemonade stand is held in April to coincide with National Autism Acceptance Month. It was held throughout the district April 6-10, with stands also being held at J-D Middle School and J-D High School. The main stand took place at Tecumseh Elementary School on Friday, April 10.
To prepare for the fundraiser, Learning Pad students helped prepare hundreds of lemonade bottle kits and created Autism acceptance pins. The lemonade stand also served as an educational experience and opportunity to use social skills while interacting with customers.

The fundraiser also got a boost from shirt sales and a new event: Hoops for Acceptance. The 3-on-3 sensory-friendly basketball tournament was a special collaboration between J-D High School students and the Learning Pad. It featured co-ed teams of students in grades 7-12. There was a player and entry fee. To further support the cause, the J-D Booster Club hosted concessions and a lemonade stand was available.

“To our amazing students across the district—you are the heart of this work. You worked so hard preparing, did such a great job hosting, and always inspire those with you,” added Ames. “To your families, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity, constant encouragement, partnership, and unwavering support.”
The Jamesville-DeWitt community is invited to participate in the Autism Acceptance Walk, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 25 at Jamesville Beach.
