A group of J-D High School students recently joined student leaders from across Central New York for the 2026 Youth Mental Health Summit. It took place at Embassy Suites at Destiny USA on Thursday, Oct. 22.

With a theme of, “The Power of Connection,” the annual summit was hosted by Contact Community Services to equip, empower, and elevate young voices in the ongoing conversation around mental health, resilience, and community support. It featured keynote remarks from Syracuse Mayor Sharon Owens, who commended student leaders for their courage, openness, and vision.
The event featured a Youth Panel comprised of local high school students who shared personal insights and led discussions on mental health, the importance of human connection, and building personal resilience in today’s fast-paced world. Students also participated in workshops designed to build practical strategies for coping with stress, reducing stigma, and fostering supportive environments in their schools.
A highlight of the summit was the Youth Awards Presentation, recognizing outstanding student leaders who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to promoting mental wellness and supporting their peers. Congratulations to J-D High School students Ryan Keough and Ella Parker for being recognized for their leadership, empathy, and advocacy within the school community.
Students could also take advantage of networking opportunities and explore a mental health resource fair. This marked the third year of the summit.
