J-D Middle School students recently wrapped up an impressive season in the Onondaga County Jr. High Math League, tying for first place among 21 middle schools.
The Math League season includes monthly competitions from November through February. During each meet, students tackle timed math questions that challenge their skills in logic, combinatorics, probability and other advanced problem-solving areas.
At the end of the season, the top five scorers from each school advanced to the final meet. This year’s championship competition was held at Chestnut Hill Middle School in Liverpool on Tuesday, March 3. J-D Middle School was represented by Zayn Mukhiddinov, Alwin Lu, Anika Arasu, Susanna Ruckdeschel, and Kaya Prasad.
J-D Middle School’s team delivered an outstanding performance throughout the season, earning 126 out of a possible 130 points to secure the league title alongside North Syracuse Junior High School.

Several students also earned individual recognition. Kaya Prasad finished second among all eighth graders in the county, while Susanna Ruckdeschel placed first among eighth graders with a perfect season.
“This team was a pleasure to coach! They are disciplined, poised, and brilliant,” shared league advisor Molly Anthony. “It has been so great to watch all of the students on the J-D Middle School math team work hard during practices and give it their all during meets.”
