Grading and Ranking Policy

Jamesville-DeWitt High School does not rank students. Student transcripts report both an unweighted cumulative average and a weighted cumulative average. The averages are calculated on a 100-point scale. In computing the weighted average, Honors courses receive a 1.05 weight, while Syracuse University (SUPA), ESF, OCC and Advanced Placement courses receive a 1.1 weight. Course weights are reflected in the cumulative weighted average only. The individual course grades on the transcript continue to reflect the unweighted final average the student earned in each course.

Advanced Placement, SUPA, SUNY-ESF, OCC, Honors, Regents, General and Applied course levels are clearly indicated on the student’s transcript. Cumulative average is determined after six semesters of high school. Lowest passing grade is 65. Final grades are typically determined by averaging the four marking periods. Regents examination grades are reported separately on the transcript and are not included in the final average calculation. All courses, except Physical Education, are included in the final average calculation.

In 2020-21, due to Covid-19, students returned to school using a hybrid model, mixing in-person and remote synchronous instruction, as well as a fully remote option. Electives were reduced and some students were not able to take all of the courses they had requested. Additionally, athletic and extracurricular activities were curtailed or eliminated, reducing many students’ opportunities for leadership and service.

NYS Regents exams usually administered from June 2020 to August 2021 were waived for students enrolled in courses culminating in Regents exams.

NOTE: Students enrolled in Algebra 2/Trigonometry Regents will take the
Algebra 2/Trigonometry NYS Regents Exam in January of the following year,
while enrolled in PreCalculus/Trigonometry.
