While summer vacation has been underway, Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District staff and administrators have been busy making plans for the start of the 2022-23 school year. The first day of school for all grades is Sept. 6, and each principal will be reaching out directly to parents and guardians with back-to-school information and events. Below are some events to note.
J-D High School
Principal Meet and Greet
Parents and caregivers are invited to three informal opportunities to meet J-D High School Principal Gregory Lawson, who joined J-D on July 5.
Lawson and the high school’s administrative team will be out in the community on three separate occasions when families may drop in and meet them before the school year starts.
- Sunday, Aug. 7: Panera Bread, 3409 Erie Blvd., 10 a.m. to noon
- Saturday, Aug. 27: Dunkin, 3493 Erie Blvd., 8-10 a.m.
- Saturday, Aug. 13: Community Library of Dewitt and Jamesville, 5110 Jamesville Rd.
Grade 9 and New Student Tour Day
Student volunteers will be giving tours of J-D High School for incoming grade 9 and new students on Aug. 30 beginning at noon in the Main Gym and lasting until 1:15 p.m. Schedules and locker information will be available to students that day, and students will have an opportunity to meet their school counselors and administrators.
In addition, at 7 p.m. Aug. 30, parents/guardians are invited to attend a brief information session in the high school auditorium with the counseling staff and administrative team. At the same time, students are welcome to explore the building independently with student volunteers available to direct them.
J-D Middle School
- Aug. 30: New Student Orientation; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (This is only for newly enrolled middle school students, not for students entering grade 5.)
- Sept. 8: Grade 5 Picnic and Curriculum Night; 5-7 p.m.
- Sept. 22: Grades 6-8 Curriculum Night; 6 p.m.
Jamesville Elementary School
- Sept. 1: Sneak Preview; all grades; 2-3 p.m.
- Sept. 16: Fall Family Meet and Sweets; all grades; 6-7:30 p.m.
Moses DeWitt Elementary School
- Sept. 15: Welcome Back Ice Cream Social; all grades; 5:30-7 p.m.
Tecumseh Elementary School
- Aug. 16: PTG Playground Date; all grades; 5-7 p.m.
- Aug. 25: PTG Playground Date; all grades; 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Sept. 9: Welcome Back Picnic; all grades; 6-7:30 p.m.
