District continues water outlet remediation efforts

The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District recently received the latest results from water testing conducted in late Sept. While most outlets are within the acceptable range, a few in the district’s three elementary schools continue to show lead levels above the state’s action threshold of 0.005 milligrams per liter.

The Facilities Department has clearly labeled impacted outlets to ensure they are not used for drinking or cooking. The team is continuing efforts to remediate any remaining issues which could include replacing more hardware or taking outlets offline permanently.

According to New York state law, school districts are required every three years to complete a round of lead testing of all water outlets used for drinking and cooking, unless the state Commissioner of Health requires testing sooner. The samples are sent to a state approved lab for analysis. If a sample exceeds this level, follow-up testing must take place until results confirm outlets meet safety standards.

The district remains committed to transparency and the health and safety of students and staff. Updates will continue to be shared with families and staff in affected buildings as new results become available. Testing results will also be posted on the district’s Facilities Department webpage
