Arrest made regarding threatening note found at high school

On March 10, Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Superintendent Peter Smith sent the following message via SchoolMessenger to J-D families and staff.

Dear J-DHS families and staff,

Today, March 10, the Town of DeWitt Police Department informed me that they made an arrest regarding the threatening note that was found in one of the J-D High School bathrooms on March 8.

I want to thank everyone involved in the investigation, including our staff, students and their families, our school resource officer, administrators and, of course, the DeWitt Police Department. While police deemed the threat noncredible yesterday, we take any threat to our school community seriously and continued our internal investigation while working closely with police as they continued theirs.

The student who wrote the note will face consequences according to the district’s code of conduct as well as criminal charges.

As a community, we must look out for one another and take care of each other. We tell students and staff that if they see something concerning, they should tell someone, and that’s what happened in this case. Thank you all for your continued support of our schools. If you have any questions or concerns about any of this, please feel free to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Peter Smith
Superintendent
