COVID-19

The health and safety of our students, staff and their families is our top priority, and here at the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District we remain committed to doing our part to minimize the potential health and safety impact of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses.

On March 1, 2024 the CDC issued updated guidance related to COVID-19 prevention and treatment. The new guidance eliminates the five day isolation requirement. New recommendations suggest returning to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving overall, and if a fever was present, it has been gone without use of a fever-reducing medication.

Prevention steps and strategies

Once people resume normal activities, they are encouraged to take additional prevention strategies for the next 5 days to curb disease spread, such as accessing fresh air, enhancing hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, keeping a distance from others, and/or getting tested for respiratory viruses. Enhanced precautions are especially important to protect those most at risk for severe illness, including those over 65 and people with weakened immune systems.

Any student or staff member may wear a mask while at school to prevent the spread of illness.

    At-home test kits

The district will continue to provide COVID-19 test kits for students. If you need a home COVID-19 test, please contact your student’s school.

    COVID-19 vaccination

COVID-19 vaccinations are not required to attend school. Children ages 6 months and older are all eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Children older than 5 are eligible for a booster. For more information, visit ny.gov/vaxtoschool

    Health and safety protocols

Routine cleaning in our school buildings continues to be an important strategy for reducing the spread of illness. High-risk areas such as health offices, classrooms, lunchrooms, athletic rooms, bathrooms and high-traffic areas are frequently cleaned, as are high-touch surfaces, such as lunch tables, desks, chairs, light switches and handrails
