Jamesville-DeWitt to host a Community Forum on Feb. 4

The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District invites families, staff, and community members to attend a Community Forum on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 6-7 p.m. at J-D High School. This forum is an opportunity to learn more, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversation about topics that matter to our school community.

Participants will take part in discussions focused on three key areas:

    1. Equity
    2. Safety
    3. Portrait of a Graduate

Equity

Hear from a Building Equity Team facilitator who will share the work taking place in our schools to support all students. You’ll also hear from a member of the CoAction Collective, a group of staff working collaboratively to identify and address inequities within our school community.

Safety

Meet one of our School Patrol Officers, who will discuss their role, what a typical day looks like, and how they train and support staff throughout the year. The district will also share updates on building-level safety teams and explain how we are reestablishing a district-wide safety team. In addition, participants will learn about existing safety plans and partnerships with Onondaga County that are in place should the district ever need extra support.

Portrait of a Graduate

The district is monitoring the development of the New York State Education Department’s Portrait of a Graduate. As the state shifts the framework of New York’s education system, this initiative creates a shared understanding of the skills and knowledge students should demonstrate upon graduating from high school. During the forum, we will explain how this work may impact our students and outline the six traits that make up the portrait.

If you have any questions about the forum, please contact the District Office at 315-445-8300. Light refreshments will be available. If inclement weather is in the forecast for Feb. 4, the district will share an update and reschedule the forum if needed.
