On Thursday, Oct. 16, the Onondaga County School Bus Safety Program asked the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District to share the following message with the community. The district is participating in the program for the 2025-26 school year.
Dear Community Members,
As you may be aware, Onondaga County, in partnership with Verra Mobility, recently instituted a bus camera safety program. This program issues tickets to drivers who pass a school bus when the stop-arm is extended.
Onondaga County has been made aware of concerns regarding violations issued in instances where a school bus was parked on or near school property. The County is actively working with Verra Mobility to implement system adjustments designed to prevent these events from being captured in the future.
Individuals who have received a violation that occurred on or near school property, or believe a notice was issued in error, may contact Verra Mobility at (408) 990-4819 to contest the violation or email SchoolBusSafety@ongov.net.
As with any new public safety initiative, unforeseen issues may arise. Onondaga County is committed to promptly identifying and correcting such issues to ensure the continued accuracy and integrity of the School Bus Safety Program.
We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as these improvements are made.
Sincerely,
Onondaga County School Bus Safety Program
