Jamesville-DeWitt Board of Education President resigns

Dear Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District community,

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, I wanted to share an important update regarding the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education. Board President Joe Gross officially submitted his letter of resignation this week, effective immediately. He cited personal reasons for his decision to step down.

The district administration felt it was important to give the board time to process this news before sharing it with the broader school community. We also waited until after the annual school budget vote and board election to avoid creating any confusion because Mr. Gross’ resignation has no impact on the results. It needs to be handled as a separate matter in the coming weeks.

The board and administrators have consulted with the district’s attorney to determine the appropriate next steps. The board is expected to review options for filling the vacant seat at its next regular meeting on Monday, June 2.

We thank Mr. Gross for his service to the district. During his tenure, he has been a steadfast leader, guiding the board through several major decisions, including the development of a capital project, school safety upgrades, and the hiring of the district’s incoming superintendent for the 2025-26 school year. We appreciate his contributions to our students and school community.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at psmith@jd.cnyric.org.

Sincerely,

Peter Smith

Superintendent of Schools
