Summer capital project work will impact Tecumseh parking lot and school building access

The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District’s ongoing capital project work will ramp up now that the 2025-26 school year has wrapped up for students.

Significant site work will be taking place at Tecumseh Elementary School this summer. The parking lot will be reconfigured to separate bus traffic from a parent drop-off loop.

The primary goal is to increase safety and decrease traffic congestion during student arrival and dismissal times. It’s a direct investment in the district’s strategic plan priority area of Safe and Efficient Operations.

“We understand this is a big undertaking and it will have a significant impact on our neighbors and staff this summer,” said Superintendent Darcy Woodcock. “We appreciate your patience as we build a safer, more efficient home for our Tecumseh students, staff, and families.”

Accessibility was an important consideration during the redesign. As the home of The Learning Pad, the district’s 12:1+(3:1) special education classroom, it is vital that Tecumseh is accessible for everyone. The updated layout will feature improved pathways and facilities to better serve students, staff, and visitors with disabilities.

The exterior transformation will also include:

Upgraded lighting for improved visibility and safety.
New pedestrian sidewalks to clearly define paths and keep walkers safe.
Updated school signage to welcome the community and increase school pride and visibility.
New playground equipment designed to meet the needs of Universal Pre-Kindergarten students.

While the outdoor work will be the most visible, projects slated to take place inside will be just as important. The district will replace aging HVAC equipment to improve air quality, temperatures, and energy efficiency. This is part of a districtwide long-term goal to ensure every building provides a comfortable learning environment.

Tecumseh Elementary School will not be accessible to staff during the majority of summer break. Families should also avoid trying to access the playground. The Facilities Department will ensure the building is properly prepared for staff and students ahead of the 2026-27 school year.

Other district buildings and grounds will undergo minor construction work during the summer months.

Timeline

Weather permitting, the majority of the work at Tecumseh is expected to be completed prior to the start of the 2026-27 school year.
