Jamesville-DeWitt Fine Arts Hall of Fame adds new inductee

The Jamesville-DeWitt Fine Arts Hall of Fame held its 4th induction ceremony to recognize Eliot Fisk on Wednesday, April 8. The event was held in the high school auditorium. 

The hall of fame serves to enlighten the community about the district’s outstanding fine arts heritage and to honor those who have made remarkable and lasting contributions, according to the group’s website. It also strives to inspire students currently participating in Jamesville-DeWitt art programs like music, theater, dance, literature, architecture and visual and graphic arts.

Renowned classical guitarist Eliot Fisk graduated from J-D High School in 1972. A former pupil of Andrés Segovia, Fisk went on to graduate from Yale University in 1976 and earned a Master of Arts a year later. He’s enjoyed performing for more than 50 years, has had dozens of works written for him, and has taught students around the world. He founded The Eliot Fisk Guitar Academy at the Yale School of Music. You can read more about his accomplishments here

The Jamesville-DeWitt Fine Arts Hall of Fame inducted its first class in 2019.

Induction Criteria

Individuals or ensembles must meet the following criteria to be considered for induction into the hall of fame:

  1. Alumni, beginning 10 years after their class graduation. 
    • To be considered for 2021, alumni must have graduated by July 1, 2011, or before.
    • Some special circumstances may allow for the 10-year requirement to be waived.
    • Candidates are considered based on any combination of accomplishments during their time as J-D students and afterward. 
    • Accomplishments may include artistic excellence and contributing to their community.
  2. Ensembles, beginning 10 years after the given academic year.
  3. Educators, beginning five years after leaving the district, including teachers, administrators and staff members employed by the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District.
  4. Contributors, individuals who donated their time or resources to J-D fine arts students, staff, programs or productions.
