Music and mission took center stage on March 18, as Jamesville-DeWitt hosted the inaugural Soup and Sock 7-12 Combined Band Concert. The event turned a traditional performance into a community service project.
The evening kicked off with the J-D Middle School 7-8 Band, led by Theresa Razmjou. They were followed by a set from the J-D High School Band, led by Anthony Greene. For a grand finale, the groups joined forces on stage for two combined selections.
But the music wasn’t the only thing being shared. Inspired by a “sock concert” concept originally held at middle school dessert nights, the bands expanded the mission to this larger combined stage. Together, the community donated:
-
- 241 pairs of socks
- 102 cans of soup
- Other nonperishables

“A clean pair of socks and a can of soup can make a huge difference for those living without a home, particularly in our climate,” shared Greene.
Teachers hope to make this “giving concert” a new annual tradition.
