Senator John Mannion recently nominated a select group of students from throughout the 50th district for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. J-D High School seniors Amanda Aitken, Karunmay Aggarwal, and Karla Wade were among those selected for the honor.

Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. Things like leadership, character, community involvement, and academic achievement are considered when awarding the nominations.

Karla was specifically nominated for excellence in career and technical education (CTE). This nomination considered academic rigor, technical competence, employability skills, as well as
ingenuity, creativity, and real-world problem-solving ability.

Amanda, Karunmay, and Karla will now go on to the next step.

According to the United States Presidential Scholars Program website, the names of the 2024 Candidates will be posted after invitations are mailed in January 2024. The names of the Semifinalists will be posted in mid-April. The names of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars will be posted in early May.

Congrats on this amazing achievement!
