News From Mrs. Duby

WELCOME TO MRS. DUBY'S FIRST GRADE CLASS!!!

READING-Last week we read two stories  about Riddles. The children loved trying to tell their own riddles. They even wrote one of their own. The skills we worked on were long e, compound words and real vs. fantasy. We have now completed book 4 of our Scotts Foresman program. So we are now ready to take our end of the unit assessment. Monday we will review all the skills we learned so we can be ready to take the assessment starting Tuesday. The assessment consists of 3 parts: a phonics part, a reading part and a writing part.

SPELLING- We do NOT have spelling words or new sight words this week because of the reading assessment.

MATH-Last week we practiced adding numbers to 20. This is a new skill going up to 20. It can cause problems for some because there are not enough fingers to add up to the higher numbers. It forces the children to count on-put the highest number in their head and then count forward the lower number.  We also practice subtraction, too. We started our new book in math too, its called Number Games and Story Problems. The book focuses on adding/subtracting numbers to 20. PLEASE practice at home!!

SOCIAL STUDIES- We discussed our book Our Country, Our Heroes. We have started talking about American Symbols. The first one we looked at was The White House.

SCHEDULE-Monday/Gym, Tuesday/Music, Wednesday/Library, Thursday/Gym.

NO SCHOOL NEXT FRIDAY-4/2.

Thank you for remember the boots for Recess. It helps keep our room clean so keep it up:)
