Jamesville-DeWitt CSD Subject to Pearson Data Breach
Approximately 650 current and former students from the Jamesville-Dewitt School District were subject to the Pearson Education data breach. Any impacted students and their families have been directly notified.
Our District was one of several school districts notified through the Central New York Regional Information Center that some student information from the AIMSWeb 1.0 was accessed by an unauthorized third party. AIMSWeb is a reading diagnostic tool used to monitor student progress in English language arts. Jamesville-DeWitt stopped using AIMSWeb in 2012.
Pearson reports it has taken steps to remediate the incident as well as put in place enhanced protections to guard against similar incidents. The security of student information is a very high priority for the Jamesville-Dewitt School District. It is our understanding that there is no evidence that student information has been misused, but we will continue to monitor Pearson’s response to this data security incident and remain in contact with our students and their families. Pearson is offering free credit monitoring services to individuals who were impacted by this breach.
